F.A.Q

Where does the name Cognac come from?

Cognac is derived from the name of a small French town located in southwestern France. Local winemakers have been distilling wines here since the 16th century, and the spirit (Brandy) was originally known by the town’s name.

What is Cognac made of?

To qualify as Cognac, the brandy must be made from white grapes sourced from six different terroirs in the Cognac region of Southwest France. The juice is double-distilled in copper pot stills and aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of two years.

What is the difference between Cognac and Brandy?

Similar to Scotch being a type of whisky, Cognac is a specific kind of brandy produced under strict regulations.

Are the Cognac Tours private on this Day Trip from Bordeaux?

The privacy of your Cognac Tour depends on the specific tour you choose. Introductory tours are usually group tours, although group sizes are small. Exclusive tours ensure visits and tastings are exclusively for your party.

How many Cognacs wines will I taste during this tour?

During your tour, expect tastings that focus on quality rather than quantity. Typically, you'll taste the premium Cognac and 'second' Cognac of each Maison, with some offering additional selections.

Is lunch included on this Tour?

Lunch is included in our Cognac tours to make things easier, but not included in our Private tours. If desired, our travel designers can suggest and arrange a local restaurant for your lunch for private tours. Your guide can also provide recommendations on the day of the tour.

Is it possible to visit or choose some famous Cognac Houses on this Tour from Bordeaux?

Absolutely. You can select visits to prestigious Cognac Houses during booking, including Hennessy, Martell, Meukow, Rémy Martin, and Camus. Contact us for additional options, and we'll arrange visits accordingly.

What can we expect on this private Cognac Tour from Bordeaux?

Expect a comprehensive experience with our English-speaking local guide, an expert in Cognac. Learn about the origins of Cognac, its distillation process, and enjoy tasting sessions during your journey from Bordeaux to Cognac. Our onboard P/A system ensures clear communication throughout.

Are the tours suitable for children/babies?

Children over 12 years old are welcome on our private tours only. Babies cannot be seated on their parents' laps for safety reasons, please ask for a baby chair when booking. Some tours, like the tasting workshop and the wine days tour, are not suitable for children or people under 18.
