F.A.Q

What can I expect during the Medoc wine tour?

During the tour, you will enjoy a scenic drive through the Medoc region, passing by picturesque vineyards and chateaux. Expert guides will provide insightful commentary on the history, terroir, and winemaking techniques of the area. At the wineries, you will have the opportunity to tour the cellars, learn about the winemaking process, and savor a variety of exceptional wines through guided tastings.

What is a Margaux Wine?

Margaux wine refers to one of the most famous wines produced in the Bordeaux wine region called the Medoc. At its best, Margaux wine is the most seductive and perfumed of all Bordeaux wines. The grape varieties often found in Margaux wines are a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and to a lesser extent Cabernet Franc. Petit Verdot occasionally makes it into the blend but this being a very delicate grape to grow, the climate of the vintage has its importance.

Margaux wines have a complex bouquet with fruity aromas of raspberry, cherry, and red currant, but also floral, spicy, and roasted aromas. The wines on the palate are powerful and the aging of the wines can last from 5 to 30 years.

Can one visit Chateau Margaux?

Chateau Margaux is the lead winery located in the appellation that bears its name. This is certainly one of the most frequent questions that we have. YES, it is possible to visit Chateau Margaux. Don't hesitate to contact us at the time of planning your coming to Bordeaux. If you want to book Chateau Margaux just a few days before you arrive then forget it! To book a tour to Margaux, you need to take into consideration that the number of visits per day are limited as are the number of guests. All bookings must be made a long time ahead of your tour date. If you contact us directly, our dedicated team of Bordeaux Winery Bookings will be pleased to design your Bordeaux wine tour itinerary.

What is the group size for the Medoc wine tour?

To provide an intimate and personalized experience, our Medoc wine tour maintains a small group size. To ensure a comfortable and engaging experience for all participants, the maximum group size is of 8 travelers.

What are the best wineries to visit in Medoc?

The Médoc wine region is extensive, covering approximately 16,000 hectares (about 40,000 acres) of vineyards along the left bank of the Gironde estuary in Bordeaux, France. This area is famous for its gravelly soil, which is particularly well-suited for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec grapes. Not all Grand Cru wineries offer a great visitor experience, but some of the best include:

  • Château Beychevelle : A Santuory group Grand Cru Classé.
  • Château La fon Rochet: A Grand Cru Classé,
  • Château Branaire-Ducru: A Grand Cru Classé
  • Château Pichon Longueville Baron: A Grand Cru Classé
  • Château Rauzan Seglan: A family-owned Grand Cru Classé.
  • Château Siran: A family-owned Grand Cru Classé…
  • Château Prieuré-Lichine: Grand Cru Classé
  • Château D’Issan: Grand Cru Classé
  • Château Giscours: Grand Cru Classé
Are there any restrictions or dress codes for the Medoc wine tour?

While there are no strict dress codes, it is recommended to dress comfortably and wear suitable footwear as there may be some walking involved during the winery visits. Additionally, participants must be of legal drinking age to participate in the wine tastings.

How many wines are served in the Wineries?

In Bordeaux, the Wineries will typically serve 1 to 3 wines during the tasting sessions. It is always the wine produced by the chateau that will be tasted. Usually, the first and second wine of the estate.

Important note: For all our guests who have experienced wine tours in other countries, please note that the average pour of wine in Bordeaux is less important than in other destinations. Even though we strive to work with Wineries that are more generous, they remain the only ones that can appreciate the quantity of wine poured in a glass.

Can we choose which wineries we will visit on this Wine Tour?

No, unfortunately, a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Bordeaux then do not hesitate to book one of our Private Wine Tours.

Is the tour suitable for wine enthusiasts of all levels?

Absolutely! Our Saint-Emilion wine tour caters to wine enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners to connoisseurs. Our expert guide will provide insightful information about the winemaking process, terroir, and the nuances of Saint-Emilion wines, ensuring an enriching experience for everyone.

Are the tours suitable for children/babies?

Children over 12 years old are welcome on our private tours only. Babies cannot be seated on their parents' laps for safety reasons, please ask for a baby chair when booking. Some tours, like the tasting workshop and the wine days tour, are not suitable for children or people under 18.
