F.A.Q
What is the driving time from Bordeaux to the Dordogne?
On this tour, you will depart from Bordeaux and your first stop is at Lascaux IV. To minimize travel time, your driver will take the highway directly to the Dordogne, reaching Lascaux in under 2 hours. The remaining distances between stops are short, and the return trip will also be via the highway.
What is the difference between Perigord and Dordogne?
There is no significant difference between Perigord and Dordogne. Historically, Perigord was part of the Duchy of Aquitaine, nearly identical to today's Dordogne, with an additional territory in what was the Quercy region of France. Dordogne is the name of the department created during the French Revolution, named after the main river crossing the area.
Perigord has become a "brand" due to its strong identity related to local history, food, and gastronomy. You will encounter the names of the four tourist regions: Perigord Vert (green for the northern prairies), Perigord Blanc (white for the limestone area), Perigord Noir (black for the local oak trees), and Perigord Pourpre (purple for the vineyards towards Bergerac).
Will we experience the Sarlat Market on this private tour from Bordeaux?
It depends on the day of your tour. The Sarlat Market is one of the most popular markets in southwestern France, held twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Wednesday market is smaller and focused on food, offering a wide selection of fresh, local produce. The Saturday market is larger, including clothing and general merchandise, and can be very busy, especially in summer. If you book a tour on Saturday, we will adjust the schedule to begin with the market.
Who conducts your private tours from Bordeaux?
Our private tours are conducted by accredited and licensed tour guides who also drive. This is necessary for tours involving visits to museums, guided walking tours in cities, and visits to historical monuments. For this tour to Dordogne, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the villages.
Is the Lascaux IV cave visit private?
We can arrange a private tour of the Lascaux IV cave for you and your party. By default, you will join a group, but group sizes are limited due to the cave's space constraints. We always book English-speaking tours, but during certain periods, you might need to join a French-speaking tour. If this happens, your English-speaking guide will translate.
